About German WWII Officer Uniforms

German Officers were known for their penchant for dressing smartly. Although many wore regular EM uniforms in the field, many purchased nicer uniforms from one of the hundreds (perhaps thousands) of private tailors in Germany or occupied territories. It appears that they were given wide latitude in the details of their uniforms- the variety of fabrics, colors, and the details of German Officer uniforms probably equals the number of tailors who made them.

Unlike the factory uniforms, there are no "service specific" officer uniform patterns. The tunics and trousers made for officers of the Heer and Waffen SS were essentially the same. The uniforms were made to fit the taste of the individual, rather than to fit a specification.
