Description

Standard combat suspenders worn by German troops in WWII. Although introduced in 1939, the "Koppeltragegestell für Infanterie" didn't become commonplace until 1941. Although the design remained the same, there were several minor design changes implemented during the course of the War. Early straps had aluminum hardware which was switched to steel during 1940. Sometime in 1942-43 the adjustment method for auxiliary straps was changed from a stud to a slide, and the rivet cover stitching was simplified. There were also a number of manufacturer differences in the size and type of D-rings and hooks used.

"M44" is NOT a WWII German designation- we created it simply to easily identify this style, and this one really doesn't fit the pattern- but it was most logical for simplicity's sake. This Y-strap is identified by it's unique attachment of the large D-rings on the shoulders. They are affixed with square tabs, sewn at a slight angle. This variation actually exists on early as well as web Y-straps- I suspect it was designed for a specific purpose, perhaps troops carrying the field radios or some other heavy equipment since this reduces the tendency of the stress to twist the tab when sewn the more typical way.

Close examination of period photos shows these being worn by a variety of Infantry and Panzergrenadiers so, if they were intended for a soldier in a specific service, it appears that it was disregarded and worn by anyone who obtained them.

Our recreation is of the latter War style, based on the M42 straps.

Our Y-straps are made directly from originals, and every aspect is correctly duplicated.

Size: These work well for people up to 6ft in height. We now offer a "long" version for taller people.
